A Weekend Under the Tuscan Sun (In multiple posts as not to overwhelm anyone with huge blocks of text)

Part 1- Certaldo
After finishing my intensive month final exam and going out to a really delicious free dinner with the whole program and the professors, eleven of us headed to Tuscany for the weekend. We started in a small town called Certaldo where, after taking a really dangerous walk down the highway from the train station to the hostel) we ate a really delicious dinner in the medieval part of town and then slept in a hostel that used to be a monastery/fortress. The hostel ended up being really cute and cool in the morning, but we got there after dark and it was a bit creepy (for some reason, even though I’ve never seen the movie hostel, the idea of it really freaks me out, and I’ve also been reading way to many books with murders in them). The next morning we walked into town where we planned on renting bikes and riding around town, but unfortunately the town of Certaldo only owns 3 bikes. Three girls stayed to bike and the rest of us quickly adapted our plans and decided to go to a town called San Gimignano.
Fun fact about Tuscany: At some point in the past there was a huge tax on salt and to this day, they still don’t put salt in bread. I guess this isn’t actually a very fun fact because saltless bread is super bland.
