Apparently Riding a Bike is Not Like Riding a Bike

Last weekend, BU took us on a day trip to Ferrara, where we went on a tour of the castle there, had a group lunch , and then had the rest of the day free. My group of friends (half the group peer pressured the other half) decided to rent bikes and ride around the medieval walls of the city. The ride was beautiful, but after a lot of wine at lunch and at least a year or two without having ridden a bike, a 2 hour long ride over gravel and cobblestone and then through busy streets was… a lot. Thankfully, there were only near-death experiences and no actual deaths (one of my friends somehow got her entire trench coat tangled in her wheel, and ten minutes later came very close to getting hit by a car). The next day, we all met at the train station to go to a modern art show in venice and could barely walk. It was a sad sight.
